Bombay to Bangkok movie rating and review

Bombay to Bangkok (2008) Movie Rating and Review :

B to B: Big ride to boredom

Why a Bombay to Bangkok after the brilliant Iqbal and the thought provoking Dor? That is the first question that bothers you barely halfway into director Nagesh Kukunoor’s first attempt at a typical Bollywood masala flick. For if the first half of this Indo-Thai bhai-bhai film barely makes it into the ‘different’ category, things are so ‘same same’ post interval that it manages to undo al the fun that Bombay to Bangkok had promised in its first hour.

In a moment of weakness, bawarchi Shreyas Talpade, otherwise an honest sort makes off with the cash-filled bag of a local don. Rearing for his life, our hero hops onto a chartered flight carrying Indian medics to Thailand and finds him thrown into a medical camp where the only thing he is equipped to do is treat every old Thai patient with Viagra!

In the bargain, he meets the woman of his dreams (Lena Christensen), a medical volunteer by day and a call girl by night. Things seem hunky dory, with the two trying to communicate despite the language and culture barrier between them….till the don lands up in Thailand on the trial of his money. So, off goes Shreyas again.

Then on, the only thing that the audience at the morning show in INOX (Forum) on Friday could do was stifle those oh-so-frequent yawns—or check the cricket score on the cell phone.

A failed script not withstanding, the performance work in Bombay to Bangkok. Shreyas talpade turns in yet another effortless performance. With Bombay to Bangkok, the actor also manages to shed his onscreen virginity, with not one, not two, but almost half-a-dozen kissing scenes! Vijay Maurya as the don Jamaal Khan aka Jam K, who has a penchant for breaking out into a rap song even in the gravest of situations, is first rate. Thai actress Lena springs a pleasant surprise with her screen presence. And a camera just loves her! The music is passable, with only the title track managing to leave a mark.

Bombay to Bangkok is a lackluster ride. Even more than 30 years after its release, Bombay to Goa is a lot more fun.
