Michael Patrick King, longtime executive producer and a writer and director of the series, writes and directs Sex and the City. The producers are Michael Patrick King, Sarah Jessica Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star, who initially created the series based on semi-autobiographical columns written by Candace Bushnell for the New York Observer.
