Sarkar Raj is the sequel to the acclaimed hit film Sarkar by Ram Gopal Varma. Sarkar was inspired by Francis Ford Coppola's film The Godfather, but the sequel Sarkar Raj has nothing to do with Godfather-2. It also does not take off from where Sarkar ended. In the life of a man like Sarkar there are bound to be many incidents which will give rise to new complex situations. Sarkar Raj is the new adventures of the Nagre family.
The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the first time in a film post Aishwarya and Abhishek's marriage. It was released on 06 June, 2008.
At the unveiling party of Ram Gopal Verma’s new film Sarkar Raj, the director showered his film’s leading lady Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (who was in Miami with hubby Abhishek Bachchan celebrating their first wedding anniversary) with compliments galore.
He announced: “When we first approached Aishwarya, I wasn’t conscious of the fact that she is a good actor because her beauty overwhelms her brilliant performances. So I had a certain arrogance in me, I thought that I would make her perform. But I was surprised.”
Ramu further recalled: “There is a particular shot in Sarkar Raj where Amitji is explaining something to her. Due to some complex camera movements, we had to shoot nine takes. What is amazing is that in all the nine takes, she looked as if she was listening to Amitabh for the first time. Only a director can recognize this as an amazing quality in an actor. I became a big fan of her acting after that.”

Synopsis :
The film is an intense political drama and is essentially a study of power; it explores the politics of development and takes a fresh look at the tradition versus modernity debate.
When Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), CEO of Sheppard power plant, an international Company, brings a power plant proposal to set up in rural Maharashtra, before the Nagre’s, insightful Shankar (Abhishek Bachchan) is quick to realize the benefits the power plant can bring to the people. After convincing Sarkar (Amitabh Bachchan) who is against it for various reasons, Shankar undertakes a journey along with Anita to the villages of Maharashtra to mobilize support from the masses.
However, things are not what they seem to be and Shankar's dream project gradually becomes a political minefield, it is against this backdrop, that evil forces mightier than ever, gang up together to bring down the regime of Sarkar and obliterate Shankar's name from the political horizon.
