Vipul Shah, as a producer, is not leaving any stone unturned to make Singh is Kinng the most memorable and most awaited film of 2008. For the song, Bas ek kinng, which features Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Neha Dhupia, Sonu Sood, Sudhanshu Pandey, Javed Jaffrey and Manoj Pahwa, the director Anees Bazmee wanted a very lavish Las Vegas gambling den-looking set… with lots of women dressed in red outfits and huge headgear. When Vipul looked at the set design, he felt that there was something missing in the kingdom of Singhs. So he got a huge throne – costing lakhs – made. The throne is plated with silver and has diamond studs on it. Now, the first shoot of the song features Akshay sitting like a king on the throne and surrounded by beautiful girls. Vipul laughs: “Anees and I wanted the song Bas ek king to be really lavish. It was the first visul of the film and we wanted the theme that Singhs are kings to be established.”
Outdoor shots are not always fun for the film unit. Anees Bazmi’s Singh is Kinng unit realized this on the very first day of the shoot in Egypt. The unit of Singh Is Kinng was in Sphinx land to capture the virgin locales for the romantic song Jee Karda… with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.
It was in the month of June and the mercury rose to 51 degree Celsius. On Day One, around 9am, the unit was shooting in and around the pyramids when Katrina and a couple of dancers swooned on the sets after a couple of rehearsals. The day’s shoot was cancelled.
Anees Bazmi and Vipul Shah realized that there was only way to beat the heat — shooting early morning and late evenings only. So from then on the cast and crew would report for work at 4am, pack-up by 10am and then re-convene at 4 pm.
“It was burning hot and we had to finish the shoot within the scheduled time period, so we shot in the mornings and evenings. Afternoons, when the temperatures peaked, were spent indoors at rest. I guess when we are on shoots these things happen and one needs to plan accordingly,” said Anees.
