How Balaji & Co. spoiled C Kkompany...

While C Kkompany is not one of those mindless comic capers, it can bore you quite a bit if you are not too fond of Ekta Kapoor and her fare — namely the Balaji babes and their 24/7 nautanki that airs.

Thanks to its producer (K-queen Ekta) the film has too much of it. The truth is the story of the film isn’t bad at all. It would have been so much better if the excesses — an integral part of any Ekta Kapoor production — could have been done away with.

For example, a whole subplot dedicated to the Balaji serials — lambasting the K-serials (that was so generous, Ekta!), the Om Shanti Om-styled cameos by the Balaji bandwagon with the song (Deewangi deewangi...) playing in the background at a party, and also a scene where Ekta Kapoor plays, well, herself. Hiten and Gauri Tejwani get footage while Sakshi Tanwar has a couple of scenes to her credit.

The excesses are also in the songs — with Tusshar, Anupam and Rajpal gyrating — that have nothing to do with the plot other than stretching it to the point of boredom.

Getting back to the actual plot, C Kkompany directed by Sachin Yardi is a film about losers. Three losers — Anupam, Tusshar and Rajpal — find solace in each other’s company, drinking every night on the rooftop and complaining about their unhappy lives. Anupam is unhappy since his son and daughter-in-law make life difficult for him. Rajpal is unhappy because of his height (yes, again!) and how his wife hurts his self-esteem by reminding him of it. He is also ashamed of his job in a shopping mall, entertaining kids in a chicken costume, and hides his occupation from his son. Tusshar’s problem is money, love and his lack of spunk. He is always afraid of things getting ‘too loud’ for his taste. Unfortunately he is courting a don’s (Mithun Chakraborty’s) sister (Raima) and needs money to elope with her.

One day, the problem-plagued trio hit upon an idea. They decide to pose as a deadly gang (C Kkompany, of course) and demand Rs 1 crore from Anupam’s stingy son. To make it realistic they shoot a fake murder and courier the video to him. While the son agrees to give the amount readily, the DVD is unwittingly left in a TV channel’s office where Tusshar, Anupam’s consort, works as a reporter. No wonder, it gets telecast the next day making C Kkompany famous instantly with the police and gangsters looking for them.

Encouraged by their success, they go on to help the poor chawl people who are on the verge of getting ousted by an influential builder, thus taking panga with Mithun and his men. Soon the television channel plunges into the fray and has this big reality show called Sarkar Ya C Kkompany where people are asked to lay down their troubles and appeal for redress.

Of course, C Kkompany turns out to be more effective and they emerge as ‘Underworld ka Robin Hood’. As much as the trio would want to quit now, their growing popularity forces them to continue helping people until they finally get caught by Mithun and company. The ending, however, is slipshod and spoils the pace of the story.

C Kkompany is only worth a watch for Mithunda who plays the gangster mad about Balaji serials with aplomb.
