Interview with Sunny Deol on Film Chamku :
Gone are the curls and long hair, Bobby Deol is out in his new avatar for his forthcoming Chamku, where he plays a naxalite. He smiles and says, “Yes, I had to do away with my long hair for the film, it’s a serious role and keeping with the personality of the character in mind, I had to chop my hair off, It is a realistically shot film about a joint operation between the Raw and Intelligence Bureau. It is the story of a boy who never had choices in his life, and is thrown into situations that force him to certain things. It is not a very commercial film in terms of flavor”.

Bobby’s last few films Nanhe Jaisalmer, Naqaab, Apne and Jhoom Barabar Jhaam saw him donning a different avatar in each one of them. Is it a conscious effort on his part to be different? “Of course it is. And I think every actor is doing that. Great scripts are hard to come by and so you need to be very choosy. I like doing good films each time I decide to do something, “he says. Kabir Kaushik of Sehar fame is directing Chamku. It may be recalled that Bobby had refused to do Shehar with Kabir earlier and Arshad Warsi was roped in. “It was years back. Kabir had come to me with a role but I was unsure of working with someone whose work I had never seen. The film was also similar to Ganhajal. I told him I would work with him if he had something good and he came up with this script. We discussed, and here we are,” says Bobby. It is often said that elder brother Sunny Deol has approve of scripts and roles that Bobby approaches. "Only if it is a home production. We sit and jointly discuss the scripts and the roles. We are planning films on different genres now. It was only during Nanhe Jaisalmer that I had taken Sunny’s opinion,” he informs. Bobby is now looking forward to working with his father Dharmendra once again in his next home production. “It’s all about a journey between a father and son. It is an interesting subject that is being directed by Sangeet Sivan. This will be my third film with my father. The first being his childhood role in Dharamveer and then Apne recently,” says Bobby.

Following is the interview with celebrity actor Sunny Deol about the movie Chamku

Top-most question is: why did you agree to produce Chamku? Is it because of Bobby Deol?

Bobby is certainly not the sole reason. Chamku is a simple story with a unique storyline. It’s basically a journey of a boy from southern Biharto Mumbai’s crime world. What caught my attention was the way it is depicted.

Whatever happened to the project starring you and Bobby?

That’s very much on. It’ll start in October. Then we have a film starring dad, Bobby and me. It’s titled Masters and its being directed by Anil Sharma, while in January, Bobby and I are doing and out-and-out comedy Double Trouble.

Coming back to Chamku, it has a comic feeling to it? It’s not exactly a humorous film, right?

No. it is a thriller, packed with action and emotion. As I said, it’s a story of a boy’s hardships, trials and tribulations. I don’t think there’s anything comical about the title.

So, why the name Chamku?

This is the character’s name, Chandrama Singh alias Chamku. With this title I wanted to suggest that a character with a funny name necessarily does not have a fun-filled life. In fact, the name completely contradicts the character.

Is there a market for a film like Chamku?

Absolutely, otherwise we wouldn’t have made this movie. See, we all say that our movie is different and the story is always new, but the bottom-line is that it is not how different your story is, but how you present it. At the end of the day, it is totally up to the audiences.

Priyanka Chopra is a glamorous star. But in this movie she is seen wearing saris. Why?

Saris are an Indian tradition. Just wearing short skirts and dancing around the trees does not make one glamorous.

Why didn’t you repeat Himesh Reshmmaiya in Chamku after Apne?

We could have, but Himesh had other commitments.
